Opt Out

While Splatoon is generally a light-hearted canon, it also touches on some darker subject matter in it's world-building. This includes cannibalism, prey/predator relationships between sentient species, poverty, and post human extinction, to name the ones I can think of. Most of these are sub-textual and easy enough to avoid.

Agent 8 himself is a child soldier for an expansionist army that he still feels some loyalty to even after defecting. He was also subjected to an experiment where a bomb was strapped to his back that was detonated immediately after failure, even if he wasn't aware of the failure condition at the time. I'd like to play with him having some kind of PTSD about it. He's had enough time and distance that he's not debilitated by it, but the strong reminders will be everywhere.

There is also the threat of Sanitation, which removes memory, free will, and emotions from people. This loss of identity is a constant threat through Eight's story. The substance that does this is made up of dead Octolings blended into paste. Splatoon is a horror game, I don't know what to tell you.

This is a living document as the canon tends to bring these up as indirect asides during gameplay and are therefore easy to miss. I will add to it if I am reminded of other potentially triggering subjects.

Nick Andros

In easy convos we take part,
With words we burst, but what speaks first?
The brain? The mouth? The hands? The heart?

Ishtar

A light in darkness, sickly blue.
You're not a host, more like a ghost
Will we steal back what's gone from you?
